The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Chief Inspector / Shift Inspector to join the Quality team at the Trenton Engine Plant in Trenton, MI. The Chief Inspector / Shift Inspector is responsible for developing and maintaining Quality Systems that support the daily Manufacturing Operations to meet Product and Process Quality metrics and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) by working closely with Operations Team Members, Team Leaders, Manufacturing Engineering and Business Unit Leaders. Quality Systems include Equipment and In-line Gages Qualification Requirements, CMM, Metrology and Metallurgical Lab System, Dimensional Capability, Analysis and Risk Assessment.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Enthusiastically lead, support and contribute to TEC's World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Program and tools
  • Supervise and manage schedules of hourly employees on occasion in substitution of Audit Specialist colleagues
  • Implement, support and follow-up on Quality Mandates including PSO and ISO Certification, Vehicle Assembly Concerns, Field and End-user Customer Concerns, 3rd party Dress Concerns, Functional Audits, Leak and Cold Tests, and Dynamometer Functions - personnel and equipment
  • Lead and support the continuous use of Production Quality Practical Problem Solving Methods and Processes for major quality issues arising from Gauging, Production, Control Plans, Dimensional Issues, and Quality Check Routes, Leak Test, Cold Test Defect Mapping, Functional / Dynamometer non-conformances
  • Provide timely feedback to Manufacturing Operations on problems identified for actions to be taken quickly to address Quality issues immediately
  • Use electronic reports to contain and quarantine product; set up inspections as required with all appropriate documentation
  • Report to Management using Daily Quality Indicators that are compiled from Functional Audit, Dock Audits, Customer (Vehicle Plant and Field) Returns and Problems, Production Quality Issues every shift and follow-up on actions taken by the respective departments to eliminate or mitigate the Quality issues
  • Facilitate meetings between various functions including Manufacturing Operations, Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering, Resident Engineering, Finance, to arrive at dispositions that impact Product Quality
  • Coordinate with SQA, 3rd party service provider, Production Control and Manufacturing Operations for Receiving Inspection, In-line inspection and sorting, Teardown and Autopsy
  • Candidate should be flexible to work on a pattern Crew schedule over two shifts, and weekend schedule will be required
  • Actively participate in TEC's employee suggestion program -- Innovation by Suggestion

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree required, preferably in Quality, Engineering, or Manufacturing Processes. (ME, EE, Chemical or Civil)
  • Ability to work well in cross functional teams and can coordinate communications between various organizations to balance Product Functional requirements and Production Process Capabilities
  • Ability to collect and synthesize data into information and communicate clearly to all levels of management for immediate action and decision
  • Exceptional PC Skills --- Lotus Notes, Catia Applications, and all MS Office Applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in engineering
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification(s)
  • Formal Quality Systems management training/knowledge highly desired
  • Prior Powertrain Experience
  • Experience in Quality Systems Development and Management, in a production environment
  • Familiar with CMM programming and maintenance, GD&T, SPC, CDS, MQAS (ISO9000 / 14001), PSO, and PPAP
