The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Chief Inspector to join the Quality team at the Trenton Engine Plant in Trenton, MI. The Chief Inspector is the first point of contact for all quality problems/concerns in the entire plant. The candidate must have a proven track record for developing and executing standardization of manufacturing quality enablers and will have ownership of all quality systems throughout the manufacturing facility. The Chief Inspector must be a creative problem solver, proactive and steadfast in the identification, and resolution of quality issues.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitor plant radio for hails for quality. Go to the scene of potential quality issues, and gather important critical information necessary to properly assess the situation, and make the determination if downstream customer is impacted
  • Quarantine components/engines as necessary to stop the flow of defects to the customer locations
  • Engage other plant resources (Resident Engineering, Supplier Quality, Plant Engineering) as necessary to help better understand the potential scope of the problem
  • Work with production operations to quickly determine the start of the dirty period, and release any conforming material
  • Work with Resident Engineering for disposition on the balance of non-conforming material
  • Manage the activities of the 3rd part inspection activities at end of line and on the outbound shipping dock, coordinate activities with Gage Management
  • Issue process/gauge deviations as necessary and push for closure
  • Ensure communication handoffs from shift to shift
  • Manage the frequency aspects of the dimensional control plan, and production operations adherence to 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline
  • 1 year manufacturing experience
  • Quality experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree
  • Automotive manufacturing experience
  • Powertrain/Engine experience
  • GD&T
  • Gaging
  • Microsoft Office
  • Machining
  • Root cause analysis/multiple problem solving techniques
