The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Supplier Quality Engineer to join the Quality team at the Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg, OH. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for managing the quality of incoming supplier materials for a sub-set of transmission powertrain, and steering column assembly components received by Toledo Machining Plant and ensuring they meet FCA commitment to delivering a quality product to the customer. The successful individual must be high-energy, hands-on and a self-confident leader who, in part due to his/her personal presence, style and demeanor, effectively sells ideas and solutions to others. Moreover, this person must have unquestioned integrity.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Root cause investigation for potential non-conformances of incoming supplier parts
  • Manage parts for confirmed non-conformances and develop a clean point to ensure the continuation of a quality product
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Design, Corporate Quality and suppliers to determine course of actions reoccurrence quality issues; and origination of corrective action to establish permanent corrective action
  • Analyze internal data for root cause analysis and document for supplier part history
  • Report cost recovery for losses due to quality spills from incoming material that affect machining and/or assembly
  • Pro-actively recommend process change for incoming material and generation of problem solving tools supporting world class manufacturing
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure incoming quality and achieve plant/corporate quality targets
  • Plan, prioritize, set goals, and manage multiple projects in a technical and business environment
  • Display effective communication skills to support meetings at all levels of the company, including senior leadership
  • Commitment and dedication in delivering a premier product to the consumer
  • Represent the "Voice of the Customer" to the platform and quality teams
  • Drive team success by clarifying expectations and minimizing political hurdles
  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment to delivering results and champion achievements
  • Exhibit a willingness to do things differently and consistently translate ideas into actions that deliver results 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university; other Bachelor degrees in a technical discipline in combination with related work experience may be considered
  • Demonstrate the ability to coach and teach others
  • Proficient in MS Office, excellent Power Point, Excel, and Access
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to communicate engineering details from floor level to high level presentations
  • Effective presentation/public speaking skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated and directed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Background in LEAN Manufacturing
  • Excellent problem solving techniques
  • Basic: 5S/5-Why/4M (Ishikawa Diagram)/Poke Yoke
  • Advanced: Theory of Constraints/ DOE/ Kepner Tregoe/ Six Sigma/ Shainin Red-X
