The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Quality Control Lead to join the Quality team at the Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg, OH. The Quality Control Lead is responsible for leading a team of quality engineers in support of plant quality metrics -- scrap, FTQ, customer complaints, etc. The Lead is the primary contact for all product quality execution activities to ensure common standards are used and delivered to meet customer's requirements. He/she represents delivered quality to the customers, customer contact lead and manage customer complaints, returns, and analysis process. The Quality Control Lead will support plant World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives and lead Kaizen continuous improvement/issue resolution projects. This position requires quality engineering experience as well as prior leadership experience. The candidate must be knowledgeable in quality management systems (i.e. Quality Assurance and Quality Control Systems), manufacturing processes, and various problem solving methodologies and tools (including SPC, DOE, FMEA, etc...).

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Management of a team of quality engineers
  • Reviews customer quality complaints and initiates corrective actions to expedite resolution and satisfy our customers
  • Focus on resolution of product quality issues utilizing data and problem solving methods to drive corrective actions with a sense of urgency
  • Monitoring and driving improvement to the quality indicators (internally and externally)
  • Set and enforce quality standards for all manufacturing processes in all plant areas
  • Develop standards and update QMS processes and procedures as required to drive quality across the plant
  • Support launch readiness and drive key launch requirements/decisions
  • Escalate issues, roadblocks and support issue resolution
  • Guarantee the quality standards of parts produced to comply with customer expectations, and achieving the quality targets set, through the regular use of quality indicators (plant and field KPI)
  • Implementation of methodologies to achieve the plant quality targets, and to drive the plant quality organization towards its objectives
  • Drive the plant toward a customer focus cultural change by ensuring accountability of quality standards
  • Act as a primary organizational contact for customer concerns and ensure appropriate corrective actions are deployed in a timely manner
  • Identify and define critical processes to drive a significant PPM reduction through enhancements of site quality methods
  • Provide direction, mentorship, training guidance and day-to-day management of the site quality team
  • Lead and promote effective problem solving/corrective action activities for the facility
  • Assist in the preparation, maintenance, review and submission of quality deliverables including: process flows, control plans, capability plans, capability studies, dimensional management, MSA studies, and/or PFMEAs
  • Oversee the layered audit process, including notifying audit team to conduct audits, ensuring non-conformances are properly documented, and closed out per required timing
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives of the facility
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships resulting in excellent customer satisfaction
  • Develop and deploy best practice implementation 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree required
  • Minimum 5 years of quality engineering experience required
  • Supervisory/leadership experience required
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in stamping, machining, and assembly operations
  • Understand the theory and have practiced lean manufacturing techniques
  • Must be versed in ISO 9001, GD&T, measurement systems, basic statistics and data analysis, metrology, PPAP requirements, and problem solving skills utilizing 6-Sigma methodologies
  • Proficient in Microsoft software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven track record of leading change and continuous improvement projects
  • Proven track record of achieving positive results
  • Highly motivated self-starter

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in engineering and/or MBA
  • Certified problem solving skills -- 6-Sigma, Shainin Red X, Taguchi, Kepner-Tregoe, etc.
  • Strong data analysis capability - ability to sift through large amounts of complex data using statistical tools, able to test theories quickly to efficiently draw conclusions
