This position is located at the Amrhein Road Center (ARC) in Livonia. The ARC is a full service team which provides design, fabrication, instrumentation, test and analysis support to FCA Advanced Powertrain development. The Advanced Powertrain Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for developing test plans, establishing timelines, evaluating, and testing of advanced powertrain electrical systems concepts to meet the needs of future FCA powertrain technology development. This Engineer will cover a wide scope of work that can include idea generation, hardware design, and testing that focuses on meeting the next generation of fuel economy and emissions standards. This Engineer will focus on analyzing and measuring vehicle/powertrain electrical loads and developing unique solutions to reduce those energy loads. This Engineer will also work with coworkers on documenting, installing, and troubleshoot powertrain electrical systems in test vehicles.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Computer Science Engineering or Physics degree
  • Minimum 1 year of experience preferably in electrical systems design and development. An advanced degree and/or academic research in a related field may count towards experience requirement
  • Experience with automotive powertrain software and hardware
  • Experience with vehicle electrical architecture and wiring schematics
  • Experience using automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, SPI
  • Experience using documentation applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, IBM DOORS
  • Experience using communication tools such as Vector, INCA
  • Ability to work in a fast paced multi-tasking environment and during non-traditional work hours on rare occasions
  • Electrical knowledge with the ability to navigate electrical schematics and utilize digital volt ohmmeters / oscilloscopes for troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems
  • Basic understanding of electronic management systems for powertrain systems as well as the fundamentals of internal combustion engine operation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of powertrain and/or electrified powertrain experience defining system requirements
  • Familiar with FCA operating systems and fuel systems engineering
  • Supplier management skills
  • Comfortable preparing and presenting to all levels of management
  • PentaSAP knowledge
  • MATLAB / SIMULINK experience in a controls environment
