The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Supplier Quality Engineer to join the Quality team at the Dundee Engine Plant in Dundee, MI. The Supplier Quality Engineer will support the Manager -- Supplier Quality in the implementation of robust supplier quality initiatives at the Dundee facility. The selected individual will have experience in managing cross-functionally and possess a broad knowledge of the entire automotive engineering, manufacturing, and quality landscape. The candidate must be high-energy, hands-on individual with strength of convictions -- a self-confident leader who, in part due to his/her personal presence, style and demeanor, effectively sells ideas and solutions to others. Moreover, this person must have unquestioned integrity.

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Capture and recover plant costs due to supplier quality spills
  • Initiate 3rd party sorts for supplier quality issues to protect production assembly and machining lines
  • Reactively and proactively improve Dundee Engine Plant supplier quality metrics by utilizing LEAN manufacturing methodologies
  • Manage incoming component quality and act as liaison with Plant Manufacturing, Operations, Design Engineering and vendor personnel
  • Support all receiving inspection activities
  • Data collection and reporting on the root cause and recommend solutions to Manufacturing operations and/or Product Engineering to issue resolution
  • Lead the tolerance rationalization process by identifying and/or evaluating tolerance relief requests, assessing alternative solutions, preparing the required data for Product Engineering review, define functional impact, develop and coordinate testing required to validate the tolerance relief, etc.
  • Protect product design intent and function while assisting with identification of solutions to manufacturing constraints
  • Proactively review supplier quality systems and validate corrective actions on internal and customer warranty issues related to supplied components
  • Ensure Product Engineering improvements developed by the partner companies are reviewed and possibly applied to engine designs
  • Plan, prioritize, set goals, and manage multiple projects in a technical and business environment
  • Display effective communication skills to support meetings at all levels of the company, including senior leadership
  • Establish partnerships both internally and externally and to influence without direct authority
  • Commitment and dedication in delivering a premier product to the consumer
  • Represent the "Voice of the Customer" to the platform teams
  • Drive team success by clarifying expectations and minimizing political hurdles

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (other technical degrees, in combination with relevant experience may be considered)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Engineering
  • Ability to review and understand blueprints

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Automotive industry experience
  • Knowledge of control plans, GD&T, Gage R&R, Process Capability & Measurement Systems
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible engine engineering design or manufacturing experience
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal with a variety of people at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to collect and synthesize data into meaningful information and communicate clearly to all levels of the organization
  • Self-directed, team oriented with demonstrated planning/problem solving skills
  • Advance problem solving skills preferred (Shainin Green belt, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Experience and working knowledge of computer systems and software
  • Ability to understand basic statistical data analysis
