The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Resident Engineer- Machining to join the Quality team at the Dundee Engine plant in Dundee, Michigan. The Resident Engineer- Machining is responsible for all quality systems/programs in their assigned area and provide technical expertise at Dundee Engine facility to champion FCA quality improvement efforts across all functional areas. The Resident Engineer will apply advanced problem solving, engineering skills and knowledge to identify risks and create risk mitigation plans to resolve production and quality system deficiencies. The selected candidate will oversee project deliverables throughout the project life-cycle ensuring the product meets or exceeds customers' needs and expectations. The candidate must be a high-energy, hands-on individual with strength of conviction -- a self-confident leader who, in part due to his/her personal presence, style and demeanor, effectively provides ideas, solutions and leadership to others. Moreover, this person must have unquestioned integrity.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support corporate quality objectives/deliverables and communicate customer demands to all groups involved to ensure organizational success
  • Provide expert technical leadership in coordinating and directing cross functional teams in the application of quality initiatives
  • Provide clear direction to skilled and non-skilled trades in the operation of product testing to generate necessary quality test data
  • Collaborate and lead internal and external resources to maintain strong customer relationships with dedication to the program schedule
  • Protect product design intent and function while assisting with identification and solutions of manufacturing constraints
  • Deliver statistical analysis of data on competition, customer direction, product performance, employee performance, and perception of the customer to the manufacturing team members
  • Provide technical direction to employees regarding root cause analysis, issue resolution and establish corrective actions serving as the subject matter expert (SME) within their area of responsibility
  • Interpret released engineering designs, specifications, materials and standards for hourly and salary personnel
  • Engineer process variation reduction
  • Employ advanced problem-solving expertise to correct unfavorable variances and communicate alternative measures to mitigate engineering, timing and/or financial issues
  • Empowered (hold authority) to cease and commence product related activities in relation to quality related issues
  • Supervise engineering teams to identify risks/hazards associated with product designs, processes, applications, applying lessons learned, and assist in the generation of FMEA's and associated control plans
  • Provides supervision necessary to perform, administer or direct rework/repair methods and processes in compliance with engineering standards
  • Plan, prioritize, set goals, and manage multiple projects in a technical and business environment
  • Display effective communication skills to support meetings at all levels of the company, including senior leadership
  • Establish partnerships both internally and externally and to influence without direct authority
  • Commitment and dedication in delivering a premier product to the consumer
  • Represent the "Voice of the Customer" to the platform teams
  • Drive team success by clarifying expectations and minimizing political hurdles
  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment to delivering results and champion achievements
  • Exhibit a willingness to do things differently and consistently translate ideas into actions that deliver results
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technical Field
  • Demonstrate the ability to coach and teach others
  • Proficient in MS Office, excellent PowerPoint, Excel, and Access abilities
  • Effective presentation/public speaking skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization
  • Self-motivated and directed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to communicate engineering details from floor level to high level presentations
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Background in LEAN manufacturing
  • Excellent problem solving techniques
  • Understand the theory and application of World Class Manufacturing
  • Basic: 5S/ 5-Why/ 4M (Ishikawa Diagram)/ Poke Yoke
  • Advanced: Theory of Constraints/ DOE/ Kepner Tregoe/ Six Sigma/ Shainin Red-X
