The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Lead Resident Engineer -- Machining to join the Quality team at the Dundee Engine Plant in Dundee, MI. The Lead Resident Engineer will supervise 3 - 4 Resident Engineers in supporting a plant that produces 1500 engines per day. The Lead Resident Engineer will assist in leading all quality systems/programs, provide technical expertise to hourly and manufacturing salary personnel at Dundee Engine Plant, and collaborate with plant manufacturing and engineering operations to champion FCA's quality improvement efforts across all functional areas. The Lead Resident Engineer will work with their team in applying advanced problem solving and engineering and knowledge to identify risks and create risk mitigation plans to resolve production and quality system deficiencies. The selected candidate will oversee and review project deliverables throughout the project lifecycle ensuring the product meets or exceeds customers' needs and expectations.

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Quick response to product or process quality issues utilizing data and world class manufacturing methods to drive problem solving
  • Work with quality and production teams to standardize quality methods and practices to assure product and process results
  • Lead engineering investigations, RCA and issue resolution
  • Create transparency of data and summarizes analysis
  • Establish partnerships both internally and externally to influence direction without direct authority
  • Drive team success by clarifying expectations and minimizing political hurdles
  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment to delivering results and champion achievements
  • Exhibit a willingness to do things differently and consistently translate ideas into actions that deliver results
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or Metallurgical Engineering (Other Engineering degree's may be considered)
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in a fast pace unionized manufacturing environment
  • Exceptional organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft software: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work overtime as required, including weekends
  • High level of mechanical aptitude
  • Good knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and technical or business field
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Understand the theory and have practiced World Class Manufacturing (WCM) techniques
  • Powertrain, engine or transmission experience
  • Experience with engine component machining, assembly, testing and analysis techniques
  • Advanced problem solving skills preferred (Shainin, Six Sigma, etc.)
