Gasoline and Diesel engines and automatic transmissions are the heart of modern trucks and automobiles. The Test Planning Design and Analysis Engineer will work to develop and analyze well designed test plans to address the challenges of improving the performance of these modern powertrains, making them clean, quiet and perform well in light duty vehicles.

The Test Planning Design and Analysis Engineer is responsible for developing test plans, establishing goals and timelines, communicating status of the test project, analyzing the test results to inform the calibration engineers, and contributing to successful project completion. The Test Planning Design and Analysis Engineer will plan and coordinate day to day activities in the testing facility, either at the Chelsea Proving Grounds test roads or emissions labs or the Chrysler Technology Center engine and powertrain dynamometer facilities, including interaction with technicians and support engineers. 

The incumbent will:

  • Utilize structured problem solving methods to make data based hardware and calibration decisions.
  • Evaluate new engine and transmission hardware and technology for future applications.
  • Analyze, plan, and solve complex orthogonal or space filling test matrices as they relate to calibration development.
  • Manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of data.
  • Actively participate in the interpretation of test results.
  • Participate in meetings with management, calibration, product design, and systems teams.
  • Present summaries and detailed reports on specific assignments, including timing projections.

This position combines multiple disciplines to develop and calibrate the engine and transmission management system of the engines and transmissions produced by the company. The candidate should expect to travel 4-6 weeks throughout the year for system validation/verification.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics, or equivalent from an ABET accredited university
  • Working knowledge of analysis of statistics and designed experiments
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid US driver's license with an excellent driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Master of Science in Computer Science from an ABET accredited university
  • 5 years' work experience in the automotive industry in an engineering role
  • Experience with gasoline or diesel engine calibration or exhaust after treatment systems, such as TWC, SCR and/or DOC/DPF
  • Experience with transmission shift quality or shift scheduling
  • Hardware-in-the-loop development /verification
  • Database management of production calibrations
  • Computer programs such as Minitab, Matlab, ETAS INCA, ETAS ASCMO
  • Certified in at least one of Kepner-Tregoe, Shainin Red X, Design for Six Sigma or Six Sigma (Black Belt)
