Technical Specialist - Powertrain Engine Driveability Job, Chelsea, MI

The Driveability Technical Specialist will lead the develop processes for efficiently calibrating engine application in regards to startability, idle control, gear compensation, transient vehicle response features, cruise control. The engineer will lead DOE approach to calibrating vehicles in a dynamometer cell or on-road approach. Lead best practice calibration approaches from subject matter experts and partner with methodology experts to optimize vehicle driveability. Lead DOE approach to optimize engine calibrations across COE teams in regards to driveability. Optimize procedures and drive cycle guidelines for data collection, lead the AVL drive incorporation process into the Powertrain Applications department as a required Quality Gate metric. Adapt standard instrumentation toolsets for data acquisition, storage, and analysis for a streamlined, automated approach. Provide regular overview summaries and detailed reports on specific assignments, including timing projections. Provide technical leadership to Powertrain teams during vehicle launch or Quality field issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, ABET accredited or ABET equivalent, is required; other undergraduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Minimum of 6 years of total work experience, with a minimum 4 years applying specialty expertise
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication through technical publications in journals, conference proceedings and technical reports
  • Demonstrated competence in the ability to direct, guide, lead and mentor significant research or technical programs
  • Patents and/or evidence of innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated depth and width as indicated in the description of capabilities and expertise above
  • Demonstrated capacity to be key "point person" within FCA to advise and assist in developing ideas
  • Strong presentation and oral communication skills
  • An ability to transmit an understanding of specialty to an automotive engineering audience
  • Meets FCA requirements qualifying the candidate for a Technical Specialist classification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented history of advancing the state of the art in area of expertise
  • Participation or leadership in technical societies
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Reactive Black Belt certification
  • Ability to train and coach technical specialists and engineers
