Technical Fellow - LEV III / Tier III Tailpipe Emissions Job, Chelsea, MI

The Tailpipe Emissions Technical Fellow will develop processes for efficiently calibrating engine application in regards to meeting LEV III, Tier III emission goals. The Engineer will lead DOE approach to calibrating vehicles in a transient dynamometer test cells, V2V, or vehicle emission test cells. Lead the Tailpipe COE in regards to best practice calibration approaches from subject matter experts and partner with methodology experts to deliver LEV III and Tier III emissions at or below corporate tailpipe emission goals. Lead DOE approach to optimize engine calibrations to meet LEV III, Tier III Emission requirements. Participate in SAE technical sessions in regards to tailpipe emission technology enhancements for all powertrain application combinations. Adapt standard instrumentation toolsets for data acquisition, storage, and tailpipe emission test analysis for a streamlined, automated approach. Provide regular overview summaries and detailed reports on specific assignments, including timing projections. Provide technical leadership to Powertrain for tailpipe emission technology plan for future product development in regards to required engine out emission levels, catalyst emission strategies for maximum efficiency at lowest cost insuring engine combustion metrics meet a set of defined requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, ABET accredited or ABET equivalent, is required; other undergraduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Master's degree in Engineering, ABET accredited or ABET equivalent, is required; other graduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Minimum 12 years of total work experience, with a minimum 10 years' applying specialty expertise
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication through technical publications in journals, conference proceedings and technical reports
  • Demonstrated competence in the ability to direct, guide, lead and mentor significant research or technical programs
  • Patents and/or evidence of innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated depth and width as indicated in the description of capabilities and expertise above
  • Demonstrated capacity to be key "point person" within FCA to advise and assist in developing ideas
  • Strong presentation and oral communication skills
  • An ability to transmit an understanding of specialty to an automotive engineering audience
  • Meets FCA requirements qualifying the candidate for a Sr. Technical Specialist classification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in relevant area of technical specialty
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Reactive Black Belt certification
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical direction for the company
  • Lead decoupled development and advance the state of the art
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and groups
  • Ability to train and coach technical specialists and engineers
