Innovation and Technical Problem Solver: Powertrain Calibration and Controls Engineering Job, Chelsea, MI

The candidate will be responsible for supporting the Powertrain Applications engineering group in resolving drivability, emissions, on board diagnostics and transmission shift quality and shift scheduling calibrations for gasoline and Diesel engines, electrified powertrains, and automatic transmissions. The candidate will provide coaching, training, and cross functional problem solving support for both reactive and proactive projects. The candidate will be required to utilize internal warranty, telematics, and customer survey databases to discover improvement opportunities, and utilize INCA, MatLab, Minitab, and other analysis tools to investigate and resolve technical problems. The candidate may be required to teach problem solving methodologies in a classroom or on the job environment. The candidate will lead and direct projects to identify root cause, identify solutions and corrective actions, including technical solutions and standard operating procedures guiding the calibration process. This candidate will frame issues, identify problems, root causes and corrective actions, and provide effective resolutions, apply disciplined problem solving methodologies to software and calibration problems, coach and mentor co-workers through Kepner-Tregoe, Shainin, and Six Sigma techniques, planning, prioritizing, goal setting, and managing multiple problem solving projects.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited program
  • 5 years work experience in the automotive industry in an engineering role
  • Superior written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Certified in at least one of Kepner-Tregoe, Shainin Red X, Design for Six Sigma or Six Sigma (Black Belt)
  • Ability and freedom to travel when and if necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or other advanced education
  • Certification in multiple disciplined problems solving methodologies
  • Work experience with powertrain calibrations
  • Work experience with controls software or software engineering
  • Experience teaching in classroom or on the job environments
