The FCA Powertrain organization is currently seeking a Gasoline Drivability & Emissions Calibration Engineer to join the team at the Chelsea Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan. The Calibration Engineer will work in concert with the Base Engine hardware releasing groups, the Scientific and NVH labs, and with Product Development Teams. Engineers are expected to develop and implement best practice design and calibration solutions, and to perform verification testing in accordance with Powertrain System Functional Objectives. Engineers report directly to Supervisors and operate under the general direction of the department manager.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Use standard instrumentation toolsets for data acquisition, storage, and analysis
  • Follow standard emission procedures and drive cycle guidelines for data collection
  • Perform calibration work that focuses on new engine or transmission programs, powertrain system adaptation to new vehicles, and controls feature implementation support
  • Incorporate design for six sigma best practices to optimize system designs
  • Develop and track hardware and calibration solutions that meet system functional objectives
  • Provide regular overview summaries and detailed reports on specific assignments, including timing projections
  • Work typically includes some travel throughout the year for issue discovery and system validation/verification

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree
  • Prior experience with calibration of spark ignition engines, powertrain systems development; or an advanced degree, academic research or a previous internship/co-op in a related field
  • Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions regulations, engine technologies and competitive products
  • Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
  • Fundamental knowledge of internal combustion engines
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good teamwork skills and ability to work independently
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
