Emissions Rolls Driver / Mechanic Job, Chelsea, MI

The Emissions Rolls Driver / Mechanic is responsible for moving vehicles into and out of Test-Cells and Park/Soak locations using PIVs, for installing vehicles onto chassis-dynamometers with full emissions and data collection systems and instrumentation, for driving chassis-dynamometer test-schedules (following a Driver-Aid Monitor that indicates required vehicle speed versus time), for fueling vehicles and moving fuel barrels, for purging and loading vehicle canisters, for initiating and completing SHED and ORVR testing, and for staying up-to-date on all trainings and participation in continuous-improvement and performance-and-leadership activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 2 years of auto service experience required
  • Must have a valid driver's license with no physical restrictions
  • Must be able to drive a manual transmission
  • Able to work off shifts (2nd or 3rd) as required
  • Basic computer skills
  • Own small/portable mechanic tools/box
  • Must be able to speak and write English

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • A.S.E. or state certified
  • Prior chassis-dyno installation and drive experience
  • Prior work in emissions lab
  • Auto dealership service experience
  • Knowledgeable in safe electrical wiring practices and circuit troubleshooting practices
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Familiar with thermocouples and pressure transducers
  • Familiar with the operation of lab test equipment for the express purpose of emissions testing of vehicles, modules, and components for development of their associated systems
  • Skilled in machining and fabrication of prototype parts
  • Welding knowledge and skills
  • Familiar with vehicle HVAC and cooling systems controls
