The Pre-Program Approval Vehicle Cost Engineer (VCE) is responsible for managing cost development (cost loops and assessments) for programs up to and including the program approval milestone. The activity begins with initial vehicle concept and continues through program approval and potentially to the end of life for a vehicle program. The VCE will own the cost loop process to ensure material and supplier tooling costs are complete and rational to support the business case. The selected candidate will act as the point person for purchasing for target cost and investment concerns during the sourcing process. The VCE will also manage all changes to the component cost and investment checkbook via the corporate change management process. The VCE will work with multiple cross functional organizations and all levels of management from senior executives to product Design and Release Engineers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university or Bachelor of Science degree in Finance; other educational credentials, combined with relevant experience, may be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of Automotive Industry experience
  • Experience in vehicle / component design, release engineering, vehicle finance cost, program management, and / or component cost analysis
  • Excellent leadership communications / people skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage, change and present ideas / concepts to all levels of management
  • Ability to motivate and lead people that do not report directly to you
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Technical or Management degree
  • Knowledge of vehicle cost management process and FastCar2 system
  • Familiarity with finance terminology
  • Engineering vehicle cost analysis experience
  • Tooling and variable cost estimating experience
