Diesel engines are an important part of greenhouse gas strategies for auto manufacturers. This position will work to address the challenges of making diesel engines clean, quiet and perform well in the light duty vehicles. The Diesel Emissions OBD Technical Specialist will lead the development of processes for efficiently calibrating NAFTA diesel diagnostics for all required monitors, including data collection procedures and drive cycle definitions as well as adapt standard instrumentation toolsets for data acquisition, storage, and tailpipe emission test analysis for a streamlined, automated approach. The candidate will be required to specify the requirements for proper data and calibrations to the Diesel Base Engine and Drivability and Emissions Groups for OBD handoffs and provide technical leadership to FCA Powertrain for the diesel engine technology plan for future product development ensuring capability for full diagnostic compliance. He/She will participate in SAE technical sessions and other industry diesel diagnostic groups in regards to diagnostic strategies for all powertrain application combinations. The Engineer will develop torque security strategy for diesel vehicle applications and maintain consistency with the gasoline engine applications and provide technical leadership to Powertrain teams during vehicle launch or quality field issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent is required; other undergraduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Master of Science in Computer Science from an accredited university
  • Minimum of six years of total work experience, with a minimum four years applying specialty expertise 
  • Demonstrated potential to teach, lead and inspire
  • Adept at communicating technical issues -- both verbally and written 
  • Area of expertise can be applied directly to the company's needs, now and in the foreseeable future
  • Effective experienced based or analytical problem solving ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in diagnostic development and calibration of NAFTA diesel engine
  • Diesel diagnostic control patents, papers or presentations
  • Experience in data acquisition and processing data
  • Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions regulations, engine technologies and competitive products
  • Documented history of advancing the state of the art in area of expertise
  • Participation or leadership in technical societies
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Reactive Black Belt certification
  • Ability to train and coach technical specialists and engineers
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
