The Technical Manager will manage a team of Design Release Engineers in the Torque Transfer COE (Center of Excellence) for all automatic transmissions purchased and assembled by FCA NAFTA. The Manager will create and maintain E-BP (engineering best practice) documents for torque transfer components and sub-system. He/she will ensure lessons learned are captured and technical infrastructure documents updated accordingly. The candidate will be the key point person for managing COE cost reduction ideas and execution as well as have effective root cause of test, warranty issues through Red X, DFSS and implement corrective actions, short and long term design fixes. The Technical Manager must have proven people leader skills to provide constructive feedback and provide challenging assignments/deliverables for the group as well as coach, mentor and develop new engineers. The Manager must have strong sense of urgency, customer focus and drive for results.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10 years of automatic transmission design and release experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in MS Office (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, ability to manage multiple complex projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Experience in transmission design, development, and software/calibration
  • An understanding of transmission operation and the interaction between various components/ systems
  • Experience with transmission sub-systems (gears, shafts, bearings, carriers, etc.) is highly valued
