In today's global competitive environment it is a significant challenge to develop new product which meets the requirements for fuel economy and performance while delivering high levels of refinement / NVH. The primary responsibilities of the Technical Fellow Advanced Powertrain NVH are to advance new technologies which maintain or improve NVH performance from the conceptual stage to pre-production stage while improving product fuel economy and efficiency. It also requires advancing new processes and methodologies for testing and virtual analysis to implementation readiness to facilitate shortened development cycles. He or she will support the Powertrain organization with a system-level approach to improve FE, performance and drivability considering all functional attributes using virtual tools and testing.

This role will target cascading from customer interface to powertrain subsystem or component level. The Technical Fellow Advanced Powertrain NVH works in close collaboration with advanced Powertrain Engineering, Powertrain NVH Development, Core Engine and Powertrain Virtual Analysis in a team environment. In this role, the Technical Fellow Advanced Powertrain NVH identifies potential NVH challenges of future FE technology and works with the team on mitigation actions/technologies using virtual analysis tools. The Technical Fellow Advanced Powertrain actively participates in competitive benchmarking activities, provides assistance defining NVH targets for new programs and identifies industry trends.

The scope of responsibilities below touches on many aspects of the role:
  • Coordinate NVH testing/benchmarking tailored to the specific system under test and development needs
  • Provide guidance and directions to in-house and outside NVH resources regarding test plans, test set-up, instrumentation, data acquisition and engine / vehicle operating conditions
  • Senior leadership review and stakeholder meeting responsibility
  • Establish NVH targets based on competitive analysis and customer expectations
  • Support PT hardware and calibration teams with root cause analysis, issue resolution on powertrain dynamometers and in-vehicle
  • Research and develop new technologies to address future NVH requirements
  • Write and publish technical papers

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent, is required (other undergraduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered)
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent, is required (other graduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered)
  • Minimum of 10 years of total work experience, minimum of 8 years in demonstrated area of specialty
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication through technical publications in journals, conference proceedings and technical reports
  • Demonstrated competence in the ability to direct, guide, lead and mentor significant research or technical programs
  • Patents and/or evidence of innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated depth and width as indicated in the description of capabilities and expertise above
  • Demonstrated capacity to be key "point person" within FCA to advise and assist in developing ideas
  • Strong presentation and oral communication skills
  • An ability to transmit an understanding of specialty to an automotive engineering audience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of powertrain development process through a minimum of 10 years of professional work experience
  • Understanding of the NVH science
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DVP&R, FMEA analysis, Program Score card and Quality
  • Cross functional knowledge of system interactions
  • Expert vehicle evaluator as to identify and assign risk for issue severity
  • Master of Science degree in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams of engineers and support groups in the execution of deliverables on a time line
  • Ability to prioritize issues based on risk and resources
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both written and verbal formats
  • Passion for excellence and drive to deliver in the face of obstacles
  • PHD in relevant area of technical specialty
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Reactive Black Belt certification
  • Demonstrated ability to set technical direction for the company
  • Lead decoupled development and advance the state of the art
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and groups
  • Ability to train and coach technical specialists and engineers
