The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for managing different supplier locations and parts to ensure high quality products are produced and transported to FCA's Assembly Plants. The engineer will provide on-site launch support at suppliers' facilities to ensure launch readiness leading up to and including program launch. They will also be responsible for managing post launch continuous improvement activities and provide on-site support at FCA plants as required. The Engineer will also be responsible for working cross functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure proper designs, suppliers, and manufacturing processes are selected. Typical parts may include any of the following: general stampings, hot stamping, welding, closures, hinges, sealing, vision and lighting, exterior trim, and electro-mechanical parts.

Within our Supplier Quality Engineering roles we ask that our engineers drive change within both plant manufacturing and component suppliers to resolve complex component issues. It is the engineer's responsibility to ensure component suppliers' processes are robust and capable in order to stay on track and manage key component quality milestones. Overall, the engineer will lead all process related problem solving activities with internal and external organizations, manage warranty with their suppliers, and ensure best practices/ lessons learned are applied across the several different vehicle programs.

Typical job responsibilities for a Body & Exterior Supplier Quality Engineer may include any of the following:


  • Audit supplier's quality systems and manufacturing processes, including critical production processes at sub-tiers
  • Establish close relationships with assigned suppliers and actively drive continuous improvement activities following the FCA Foundational Principles
  • Initiate and follow-up on corrective actions and verify effectiveness on-site
  • Participation in launch teams for purchased components within the vehicle platforms
  • Support supplier APQP and PPAP activities to ensure all deliverables are being fulfilled
  • Be an effective liaison between the supplier and the extended FCA team
  • Assist in educating suppliers on FCA systems and requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited university; Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical, Biomedical/Biomechanical/Bioengineering, Chemical, Materials, Metallurgical, or Mechatronics may also be considered
  • 2.5+ years of work experience in Quality, Supplier Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing or a related field
  • Ability to travel up to 40% within the NAFTA region
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Prior Internship Experience within Supplier Quality, Engineering, or a related field
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering or a Master's in Business Administration
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative problem solving ability
