The Powertrain RWD Torque and Transmission Calibration Senior Manager are responsible for leading planning, development and implementation of NAFTA and export model year calibrations for RWD applications. The position leads a team of approximately 80 Engineers; providing direct supervision of managers responsible for delivering production Torque control, Shift scheduling and Shift control calibrations for all RWD applications including a HD Truck team and Drive Quality methodology team to measure and document calibration performance in addition to a technical specialist responsible for calibration robustness, problem-solving of field issues and ensuring future program requirements are met. The leader should be familiar with AVL Drive measurement methodology, DFSS to guide calibration function development, and vehicle to virtual strategies to reduce vehicle mules and improve VP calibration timing and quality.

The Senior Manager is responsible for Media Quality Fleet engine and transmission adaptation and verification from the FREC location. The RWD Calibration Senior Manager will work with other managers responsible including FWD Transmission Calibration, Engine Calibration, Driveability and Emissions, Torque Security, and OBD calibration and regulatory certification, as well as, other regional managers to establish model-year release-date driven plans to meet business requirements including Fuel Economy and Technical Cost Reduction. The defined project plans should cover all aspects of regional drivability and emissions including development and support plans for calibration training, calibration guides and tools to permit calibration capability transfer including identification of key personnel for training and in regions while respecting the need of Intellectual Property security.

The Powertrain RWD Torque and Transmission Calibration Senior Manager will work with EMEA, APAC and LATAM managers to review regional calibration programs and identify any support needed with regular reviews. She/he is fully operational; responsible for staffing, warranty and budget management and ensures that work is appropriately covered through calibrator project review, quality gate review, DVPR completion and participation in verification trips. The candidate will work with the Powertrain Application Engineering Director and his staff to: select special projects, plan resources, establish timelines and monitor progress on an ongoing basis. The manager role may include regular local travel to Chrysler Chelsea Proving Grounds and infrequent overnight domestic and global travel throughout the year for project planning and verification of calibration work.

The primary job location is at FREC where 85% of the team is located with a secondary location at CPG where 15% of the staff is located.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science or equivalent from an ABET accredited university with a minimum of ten years accumulated experience in Transmission Controls/Systems and Calibration 
  • A minimum of five years accumulated experience in Transmission Controls/Systems and Calibration 
  • A minimum of five years of prior experience supervising a group of Calibration Engineers
  • Thorough understanding of gasoline & diesel engine and transmission operating principles
  • Thorough understanding of torque control, shift scheduling and shift control principles
  • Understanding of AVL Drive driveability measurement methodology Understanding of exhaust after treatment operating principles
  •  Understanding of Emissions Certification process, and AECDs requirements
  • Experience improving Drivability warranty, outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experience in staffing, recruitment and retention actions
  • Experience in program resourcing estimates, operational budget setting, technical cost reduction and administration
  •  Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science [from BS required] or PhD [from MS required] in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Science from an ABET accredited university
  • MBA or other business or management degree
  • Multilingual: Chinese, Portuguese, Italian
  • Controls Engineering Competency
  • Software Engineering Competency 
  • Experience with calibration tools and calibration release process
