The FCA Quality organization is currently seeking a solutions-oriented Quality Reliability Manager (Powertrain Conventional Systems) to join the Quality team at the FCA US Headquarters and Technology Center in Auburn Hills, MI. The Powertrain Conventional Systems Manager must be able to effectively interact and sell position statements to other areas of Powertrain, Quality and Vehicle Engineering. The Manager must act as a global leader in powertrain reliability for our other Powertrain Engineering and Quality regions. During the product development lifecycle, the Manager must approve all validation plans for powertrain programs. The Quality Reliability Managers are instrumental in the launch readiness decisions. After launch, he/she must approve all design changes for the product life cycle of his/her commodities.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Execution of the Proactive Reliability Process for Engine, Transmission and Driveline programs with NAFTA responsibility, including cost and timing
  • Ownership and reporting of powertrain reliability key performance indicator metric, to powertrain teams, including key decisions and Enablers
  • Ensure program reliability risks and issues have clear path to resolution
  • Ownership and reporting of powertrain DFMEA KPI metric, for powertrain teams
  • Facilitate and Approve Performance Standards, Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Design Validation Plan and Report, as well as vehicle durability and reliability test plans for new powertrain combinations
  • Selecting and developing high potential employees to strengthen the QRE team and contribute to continued success
  • Approval authority in powertrain change management for reliability impact of design changes
  • Own powertrain reliability assessments in support of powertrain and vehicle program investigations
  • Provide reliability peer-to-peer training and guidance to other regions on joint reliability programs

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or in Engineering, Reliability, Statistics, Mathematics or related field from an ABET accredited college or university (other 4-year engineering degrees in combination with relevant experience may be considered)
  • 10 years' experience in Product, Quality, or Reliability Engineering
  • 3 year leading, directly or indirectly, high performance teams
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry and the various systems that are part of modern automobiles
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams with a propensity to coach individuals beyond what they thought were capable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting complex material to various types of audiences
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years leading Powertrain Engine, Transmission, or Driveline teams in the role as a CoE Lead, Assistant Chief Engineer, Development and Validation Supervisor or equivalent
  • Knowledge in powertrain product development processes
  • Knowledge in application of Functional Block Diagrams, Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects to successful conclusion
  • Black Belt in Design for Six Sigma or Shainin
  • System Level Thinker - The ability to understand how the different powertrain components and systems are interdependent
