The Product Engineer -- Motor Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of hybrid/electric vehicle drive units for FCA products. The Engineer will develop efficient and cost effective hybrid electric drive unit designs using cutting edge technologies, latest test and evaluation equipment/laboratory, and robust simulation tools. Define and carry out all required development and validation testing to ensure achievement of all functional objectives and assure compliance to program objectives. Develop innovative concept designs for motor and gearbox assembly, participate in supplier assessments and post-test inspection reviews including detailed failure analysis. Work closely with the chosen suppliers and manufacturing entities to ensure designs are robust to customer requirements, meet exact function, and can be manufactured without defect. The Engineer will assist to create production source packages and execute the design using strong leadership abilities and outstanding teamwork/communication skills. Candidate shall have knowledge of electric motor mechanical design including gears, bearings, rotor assemblies, shaft fabrication, thermal analysis and cooling, NVH analysis and prevention methodologies, rotor balancing, and dynamometer testing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 3 years of technical engineering work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in hybrid and electric field
  • Motor mechanical knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of FCA powertrain design/development process
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Aptitude for mechanical system design/development
  • Ability to work with engineers, designers, technicians, and CAE analysts
  • Self-motivated/self-starter

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Electric motor design experience 
  • Motor thermal and NVH knowledge
  • Drivetrain design experience
