The Product Engineer-Design/Release of Transmission and Driveline is responsible for developing transmission and driveline components and systems; leading and participating in component level and system level development activities; and interfacing with suppliers, platform engineering, Powertrain system engineering (calibration), active chassis systems and several other vehicle level system support organizations. The Engineer will participate in the design integration of Independent Rear Drive Units and Independent Front Drive Units into current and future vehicle programs. He/she will participate in the integration of manufacturing Independent Rear Drive Units and Independent Front Drive Units at manufacturing locations in the US and international sites, as well as their component suppliers. He/she will develop axle system concepts by working with designers and suppliers to design and adapt axle systems into new vehicle application and work with Virtual Tools, CAE, and FEA engineers to validate the designs. The Engineer will test finished products for quality purposes and recommend changes to product specifications as necessary and design, develop and release activities to meet functional, reliability, weight, cost and timing requirements and write technical requirements for Source Packages. He/she will track and report prototype axle part issues in vehicle builds, and implement corrective actions. The candidate will coordinate the axle system parts for pilot vehicle builds and vehicle launch activities and manage axle supply base for adherence to corporate vehicle timing requirements. The Product Engineer will track and report axle warranty related issues and develop countermeasures with supplier to reduce/eliminate field warranty issues. The Engineer will complete teardown, tracking and root cause analysis of field returned units, ensuring corrective actions are tracked and implemented. He/she will also ensure production procedures efficiently utilize materials and personnel and work closely with design, CAE, Scientific Labs, SQA, P&S, manufacturing, vehicle synthesis, and suppliers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an (ABET) accredited university
  • Firm understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Technical career oriented, focus in automotive engineering
  • Minimum of one year of work experience of axle design and release
  • Working knowledge of the following tools: Function model, DFMEA, DVP&R, PPAP systems
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Capable of analyzing complex data and providing a clear summary
  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to manage multiple on-going projects
  • Must have a valid driving license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, powder metals, machining, and assembly
  • Good understanding of FCA internal systems such as CN, FR, SPs, ECIMs, GIMs, WIS, etc.
  • Familiarity with CAD and FEA software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Electrical/electronic engineering knowledge
  • Specialty course work in transmission and driveline related subjects of interest (gear technology, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, etc.)
