Product Engineer - Advanced Powertrain Hardware Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The Product Engineer will design and develop engine components using established best practice principles with a focus on efficiency, friction reduction, mass reduction and CO2 improvement. The components will be created using quality methodologies such as system design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) and design validation plans (DVP&R). The Engineer will coordinate design, prototyping, and testing of components in conjunction with other Advanced Powertrain team members while interfacing with the Centers of Excellence, Production Release Engineers, Suppliers and other outside resources. It is expected that this individual will lead benchmarking and solution development activities, develop, document and track project plans.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 5 years of Engine / Powertrain design / development experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of engine operation and components
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of standard engine manufacturing and assembly operations including component prototyping
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and utilize project management skills to maintain timing and deliverables
  • Must be able to lead and manage suppliers
  • Some travel required to supplier locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Green/Back belt in Shainin or DFSS desirable
  • Hands-on involvement in the repair/modification of a vehicle, home or other technically complex project
  • Working knowledge of casting and injection molding processes
  • Experience in Powertrain systems, calibration, emissions / OBD
  • Knowledge of Chrysler systems and/or products a plus
