This key position is in the Powertrain --Base controls/Software Group. The Engineer must be technically strong, systems focused with interdisciplinary experience and expertise. The selected candidate must be willing to work in fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in and can significantly contribute in more than one of the following areas:

  • Controls systems and operating strategy
  • Utilization of sensors in feedback and feedforward control strategies
  • Fuel systems (port and direct injection systems)
  • Combustion processes (spark and compression ignition)
  •  Air flow/mass/volumetric efficiency calculation
  •  Fuel controls (DI, Bi-Fuel and PFI)
  • Adaptions (air, fuel, torque, knock)
  •  After treatment
  • Fuel economy, transient response, launch control
  •  Auxiliary load and thermal management
  • Fuel economy and performance optimization

The Engineer will use MATLAB/Simulink and rapid prototyping tools to develop algorithms including the development of all supporting documentation (FMEAs, testing and validation reports) and calibration guides. Experience in engine combustion, combustion phasing, spark, dwell, knock control, misfire, engine torque management, etc. are required. The work is performed in the vehicle, dynamometer and/or simulator environment.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with ABET accreditation is required
  • Good overall knowledge of IC engines and engine control systems
  • Experience in standard controls tools, modeling/simulation/development/testing/validation
  • Leadership experience and Embedded software knowledge 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • A quick study, but one who is not afraid to ask for the help and support of the team
  • Will be a self-starter who is able to work cross-functionally with other organizations
  • Minimum two years of experience required, however, an advanced degree and/or academic research in a related field may count towards experience requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in Automotive Powertrain Controls development is desired
  • Engine calibration and/or embedded software experience a plus
  • Matlab-Simulink experience desired
