The Powertrain Controls Development Engineer leads the Powertrain Controls --Combustion Group. The candidate must be technical, with a system focused and interdisciplinary experience and expertise. He/she must be willing to work in fast paced environment. The Engineer must have expertise in controls systems and operating and utilization of sensors in feedback and feed forward control strategies as well as have fuel systems (port and direct injection systems) background and combustion processes (spark and compression ignition). He/she will have experience with the auxiliary load and thermal management; and, fuel economy and performance optimization. The successful candidate will use Matlab/Simulink and rapid prototyping tools to develop algorithms including the development of all supporting documentation (FMEAs, testing and validation reports) and calibration guides. The Engineer must have experience in engine combustion, combustion phasing, Spark, Dwell, Knock Control, Misfire, Engine Torque Management, etc. are required. The work is performed in the vehicle, dynamometer and/or simulator environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Four year undergraduate relevant to Engineering (I.e. Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, System Control, Computer Information degrees, or other suitable degree related to Engineering from a University)
  • Minimum of two years' experience in automotive
  • Understanding of Knock and Knock Controls
  • Understanding of Spark & Dwell Controls
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A minimum of one more years Matlab / Simulink Tool experience in creation of controls algorithms
  • A minimum of one or more years ETAS INCA Tool Experience for collecting data
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office applications, including sample presentations in PowerPoint 
  • Good understanding of the development of embedded software
  • Willing to travel up to 20% away from primary location in Auburn Hills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or System Control from a University
  • Minimum of three years' experience in automotive
  • Understanding of validation of controls for new gasoline engines 
  • Understanding of developing embedded software 
  • Understanding of developing new gasoline or diesel engines 
  • Understanding of BSG and PHVE systems
  • Understanding of Super Charge and Turbo Charge systems
  • Flexibility -- must be able to adapt to changing environment with minimal effect on productivity
  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of Supervisors
