The On-Board Diagnostics Engineer is responsible for understanding and implementing the California Air Resources Board On-Board Diagnostics Regulation requirements, particularly in the area of generic scan tool data relative to SAE J-1979 and SAE J-1699 Standards. Said understanding must be used to assist in proper software implementations and for verification testing both on vehicles and on HIL (hardware in the loop) test benches. Support those conducting the actual testing to resolve any observed issues with the appropriate software personnel. Work with the Advance OBD groups and the Production OBD Calibration groups to ensure compliant production implementation. Summarize results of all testing for every application prior to production launch. Instruct others as appropriate in our FCA OBD world about basic monitoring requirements to be followed for compliant vehicles.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or Computer Engineering or equivalent from an accredited program
  • Some understanding of regulated on-board diagnostics
  • Some experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Visio, Project and Access
  • Must have above average written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively operate both independently and as part of a team
  • Capable of coordinating activities with numerous internal and external groups
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Some familiarity with MATLAB/SIMULINK

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Industrial or Project Management Engineering from an accredited university
  • On-board diagnostics and base engine control software knowledge
  • 2 or more years of automotive engineering experience in gasoline or diesel controls or On-Board Diagnostics
  • Some experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Experienced in database applications, e.g., Microsoft Access database, Oracle
