The Mechatronics Technical Specialist is responsible for defining and delivering high level requirements (HLRs) for new and modified engine controls systems. Powertrain engine systems/feature development would apply to multiple powertrains across the NAFTA product portfolio. The Mechatronics Technical Specialist will work with a small team of engineers/specialists to help synthesize the requirements model for the system function(s) and for the unique system interactions in the complex electro-mechanical controls system under development.

The Mechatronics Technical Specialist will work closely with the Advanced Controls Team on pre-production, coupled projects during proof of implementation. The Mechatronics Technical Specialist helps to develop and iteratively drive high level requirements for incorporation into Doors Next Gen (DNG) and/or System Requirements Models or model elements.

In addition, the Mechatronics Technical Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Developing and driving processes, tools and Model Based Systems Engineering Requirements for scalable solutions that are re-usable and to help create a library/feature catalog of model elements using International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) driven standard SYSML/UML methods and tools
  • Conducting system interaction meetings with CAD simulation, Advance Controls, UX, HMI or other teams to help elicit Mechatronics Technical Specialist based high level requirements per system/feature under development. Reviewing the aforementioned to iterate high level requirements. 
  • Help derive the elicitation process and forms for the unique aspects that mechatronics area of interest requires

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent, is required; other undergraduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Minimum of 6 years of total work experience, with a minimum 4 years applying specialty expertise
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication through technical publications in journals, conference proceedings and technical reports
  • Demonstrated competence in the ability to direct, guide, lead and mentor significant research or technical programs
  • Patents and/or evidence of innovative thinking
  • Demonstrated depth and width as indicated in the description of capabilities and expertise above
  • Demonstrated capacity to be key "point person" within FCA to advise and assist in developing ideas
  • Strong presentation and oral communication skills; ability to transmit an understanding of specialty to an automotive engineering audience
  • Meets FCA requirements qualifying the candidate for a Technical Specialist classification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented history of advancing the state of the art in area of expertise
  • Participation or leadership in technical societies
  • Design for Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Reactive Black Belt certification
  • Ability to train and coach technical specialists and engineers
