FCA is creating a new transmission controls organization that is responsible for developing the controls algorithms and software for FCA future transmissions. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers interested in helping build a new organization from the ground up.

The Transmission Control Manager is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership in developing transmission controls and managing the overall controls deliverables and timing. The Manager is also expected to model positive leadership behaviors and mentor engineers and supervisors to help the organization grow in capability and throughput.

We are looking for a highly motivated and energetic leader to continue the development of cutting edge controls methods into our current and next generation transmissions. In this role, the Manager is responsible of leading a team of experts in clutch controls, overseeing/managing transmission controls development and implementation of transmission controls strategies this include clutch-to-clutch controls, dog clutch, Launch clutch controls, and their application in ATX, DCT and CVT. Candidate must be able to facilitate physics model-based development within the organization, and promote training; he/she should be familiar with the industry's transmission control strategies.
A successful candidate should be familiar with the following:

  • SIL, MIL, and HIL
  • Plant models used to create control solutions
  • Integrated powertrain control (torque characterization, engine/transmission interactions, powertrain optimization strategies)
  • Driving strategy
  • Driveline system control
  • Diagnostics and vehicle electrical systems 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET
  • 10 years of total work experience; minimum 6 years applying transmission controls expertise
  • Knowledge and experience in program management
  • Strong people skills: Positive 360 interactions and strong communication, written and oral
  • Knowledge in transmission shift controls (upshifts, down shifts and garage shifts)
  • Failsafe logic and OBD
  • Safety/Knowledgeable in ISO26262
  • Clutch adaptation controls
  • Torque management controls during shifts
  • Demonstrated potential to lead, inspire and deliver
  • Adept at communicating technical and business issues, both verbally and written

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or Master degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent; other undergraduate level technical degrees in specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Effective experienced based or analytical problem solving ability
