The Exterior Lighting Development Lead (DL) will manage an engineering group to design and develop headlights, tail lights, signal lighting for multiple vehicle lines. The Development Lead works with Purchasing for sourcing strategies and establishes cost, weight, investment, ED&D targets for specific project deliverables. The DL publishes and ensures correct technical documentation is included in source packages, ensures correct EBOM, defines specialized market requirements by region, leads defining technical solutions for product design office, approves technical solutions that support price class/differentiation, provides guidance to engineers in group, determine test requirements - manage and approve DVP&R's for component/vehicle on new and current vehicles. Oversee validation and ensure product behavior (optically and electrically) meets functional objectives and function maps, assist in resolving launch/fast feedback issues, confirm product designs conform to best global harmonized design practices, create and manage performance standards, lab procedures, and process standards as related to lighting and the electronics used to drive lighting, investigate new lighting technologies; decouple development to make ready for program application, oversee competitive and internal benchmarking, create lessons learned and ensure adherence in future designs, maintain core DVP&Rs, maintain core DFMEAs, manage quality improvements, manage and implement technical cost reductions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or equivalent
  • 8 years total in an Engineering role
  • 5 years automotive lighting experience in increasingly responsible positions required
  • Exterior Lighting Design Lead for multiple vehicle programs, both in packaging requirements, lighting performance, lighting system behavior/validation
  • Knowledge of headlamp, tail lamp, small lamp design practices and regulatory compliance specifications required
  • Working knowledge of NX/TeamCenter desired
  • Knowledge of development testing and validation processes desired
  • Experience developing performance standards and source packages helpful
  • Track record of strong leadership
  • Must be self-directed with the desire to take on a visible leadership role within Body Engineering
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required to support design/development process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Optics/optics software desired (Lucid Shapes/Lucid Drive, other)
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Electrical Engineering background helpful
  •  Shainin and/or DFSS Black Belt experience
