Engine position determination and monitoring is at the heart of any engine controls system.

The Engine Synchronization System Engineer is responsible for defining the system level requirements for all aspects related to identifying and maintaining engine position. The Engineer will work with the engine timing drive team, cam/crank sensor release engineers, base engine teams and powertrain EE controls and software teams to identify critical component characteristics, cam/crank target wheel patterns, engine synchronization logic and diagnostics requirements. The Engineer will engage with both inter-department and extended powertrain and vehicle teams to execute all aspects of the cam/crank synchronization system including integration with newer systems such as active noise cancellation, stop/start, belt-starter-generator and HEV systems.
Within this role the Engineer will create and maintain specifications (vehicle functions and/or component functional technical specifications) containing high level requirements for the overall engine synchronization system. The position will include working with and managing DFMEA and DVP for the specified systems. The Systems Engineer will be the glue that ties the different engineering departments together and therefore must be able to engage with a wide range of individuals including, but not limited to: base engine, manufacturing, service, electrical, calibration, controls and software engineering teams. The role will also include performing reviews of requirement design documents, Simulink models, C/C++/assembly code and test plans.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering, or Applied Physics
  • 5 years engineering experience in any of the following: engineering systems design, engineering software/controls design or signal processing
  • Familiar with vehicle electrical systems, CAN communications, and architectures
  • Familiarity with microprocessor-based controls and development tools (emulators, debuggers, etc.)
  • Experience using ETAS INCA data capture and calibration tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 3 years of experience in engine position determination and monitoring
  • Familiarity with NXP eTPU software
  • 2 years of embedded C/C++ software experience (hand-coding) and/or auto-code experience with Simulink/Embedded Coder; however, an advanced degree and/or academic research in a related field may count towards experience requirement
  • Controls or software engineering experience
  • Sensor knowledge including component DFMEA and DVP
