Engine Mechanical Development Test Engineer- SRT Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The SRT Base Engine Mechanical Development Test Engineer will work on current and future SRT performance engine platforms, such as the 707HP Hellcat 6.2L Supercharged V8 and the 645 HP Viper 8.4L V10. The Engineer will be responsible for proper test execution, data analysis and reporting of the results for the assigned engine platform. Some key activities include: lubrication/cooling system performance, timing drive system behavior, engine friction testing, valve train dynamics, vibration measurement/analysis, thermal mapping, and engine failure analysis. The Engineer will be accountable for achieving individual goals as well as accomplishment of department goals, and program requirements.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage overall mechanical development test activities for assigned engine platforms including strategic planning for future programs
  • Support determining the root cause of issues and make decisions for corrective actions to ensure containment and implementation, in timely manner
  • Review design verification plans to ensure all appropriate testing deliverables are identified
  • Coordinate facilities for test implementation with Powertrain testing group
  • Provide documentation and reports for tests per product engineering requirements and project management as required
  • Prepare test schedules to meet program timing objectives and milestones
  • Chair weekly meetings to provide updates on test status and identify issues that are delaying implementation 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in powertrain engineering
  • Strong knowledge of engine systems/controls
  • Excellent knowledge of data collection and analysis
  • Profound ability for effective diagnosing and root cause analysis
  • Ability to remain impartial/unbiased/objective in decision making
  • Self-starter with the ability to follow through
  • Self-directed requiring very little direction/supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good presentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to make tough, sound decisions on time
  • Adapts quickly to new situation and reacts professionally
  • Ability to motivate others in a working environment
  • Knowledge in the fundamentals of statistical process control
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Formal problem solving training (Kepner-Tregoe, Taguchi)
  • Design for Six Sigma experience
  • Knowledge of common tools (INCA, I-Box, DCplot, MATLAB, Can Communication)
  • Motorsports background is a plus
