The Powertrain Calibration Methodology Engineer is responsible for the design and validation of mathematical models used to generate spark ignition engine calibrations that achieve fuel economy, emissions, and performance requirements for future powertrain systems. The successful candidate must have a strong analytical background and thorough understanding of modeling techniques, such as Design of Experiments (DoE) and Neural Networks. The Engineer will work closely with engine development teams to create dynamometer test plans, post-process data, and validate engine models. This individual will work simultaneously on a variety of projects, and be an advocate for model based methods within powertrain engineering.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Statistics
  • Expertise in mathematical and/or statistical modeling and optimization techniques such as: neural networks, radial basis functions, statistical machine learning, and/or design of experiments
  • Strong analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret data sets
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills to clearly present analytical findings using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Statistics
  • Experience with Design of Experiments based calibration tools such as MATLAB MBC/CaGe, ASCMO, EasyDoE, or Cameo
  • Experience with engine dynamometers, powertrain calibration, or 1-D engine cycle simulation
  • Experience in processing large data sets using MATLAB
