The Electrified Powertrain Control Algorithm Development Engineer will work within a team of powertrain controls, calibrations and integration engineers to develop electrified powertrain systems for current and next-generation electrified powertrains for Chrysler and FIAT vehicles. The overall goal for the team is to develop a complete electrified powertrain that meets the vehicle functional requirements for fuel economy, emissions, drivability, and diagnostics. The ideal candidate, who is a strong team player and willing to work in a fast-paced environment, will have experience in modern and classical control strategies with a powertrain subsystem application (engine, transmission, electric motors, etc.). Being system focused and having interdisciplinary experience, the ideal candidate must be able to significantly contribute to the development of hybrid operating strategies, powertrain control and optimization strategies, fuel efficiency and drivability. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in modeling of mechanical transmission systems and be familiar with using lever analogy principles along with necessary experience in clutch controls relating to clutch-to-clutch shifting and garage shifts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, or a related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university 
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in one or more of the specialty areas listed above - an advanced degree and/or academic research in a related field may count towards experience requirement
  • Demonstrated technical problem solving
  • Experience in multibody system dynamics
  • Strong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functions
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and/or validation
  • Outstanding interpersonal and problem solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university
  • Specialization in classical and/or modern control disciplines with vehicle application
  • Engine/transmission calibration and/or embedded software experience
  • Knowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best practices
  • Demonstrated application of technical excellence
  • Instances of demonstrated application of technical excellence (developed new process, experimental or computational; developed new numerical or modeling procedure; developed new statistical procedure; developed new problem solving approach; etc.)
  • Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCA
  • Experience with embedded software languages and development processes
