The Durability Test Engineer will coordinate the durability testing of gasoline engines. The Engineer will be responsible to review design verification plans to ensure all appropriate testing deliverables are identified. He/she will work with DREs to develop and agree upon test requirements, maintain Master Test Plan, report on test status and identify issues that are delaying implementation. The Engineer will approve usage for test properties; track testing of special components; facilitate test cell planning; prioritize tests; issue test requests; monitor execution of test activities per plan/procedure; and maintain engine and testing details in powertrain database. The Engineer will work with build coordinator to identify any special required components; issue and track work orders; facilitate pre- and post- test data integrity check; support root cause analysis; issue incident reports; and facilitate weekly engine teardown reviews.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 years of Powertrain engine engineering/engine testing experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with basic PC software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, ability to manage multiple complex projects
  • Must have a positive attitude

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of internal combustion engines from both a hardware and an engine system operation standpoint
  • Experience with design/development of engine or powertrain components
  • Understanding of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) method; experience applying these tools would be an advantage
  • Experience conducting or overseeing engine dynamometer and/or spin rig testing
  • Familiarity with INCA, CAS and other calibration-related instrumentation and computer systems
  • Vehicle testing experiences related to powertrain
  • Strong data analysis skills are very important in this position (e.g. MATLAB, advanced Excel, MS Project)
