The Dimensional Engineer in Metrology is responsible for leading dimensional improvements on vehicle geometry through part, tooling, or design actions. The Engineer will work with the Metrology Center/Plant/Validation team members to analyze complex parts and sub-assemblies (sheet metal, exterior and interior) using various measurement systems (Meisterbock, quality assurance fixtures, laser trackers, CMMs, in-line vision stations). This position performs data analysis, often organizing data from multiple sources to identify top issues and potential root causes as well as works with production personnel and plant quality engineers to recommend and validate proposed solutions. The Dimensional Engineer will verify effectiveness of corrective actions implemented through data analysis and proactively monitor trend charts and work with cross-functional teams to drive variation reduction of critical product and process characteristics. The person in this position interacts with suppliers, both internal and external, to communicate issues and drive resolution. The Engineer provides technical support for CMM operators for PC-DMIS programming, which includes validation of programs, verification of data results and general metrology questions and will generate custom reports as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or minimum 10 years in a dimensional engineering role
  • Knowledge in basic statistics and process control
  • Core metrology skills including knowledge of measurement techniques
  • Experience with PC-DMIS and its use in metrology applications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and other MS applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Experience in using statistical analysis applications
  • Good data analysis skills and knowledge of Minitab or equivalent statistical package
  • Knowledge in advanced statistical concepts
  • Advanced working knowledge of PC-DMIS
