The Diesel Product Engineer is responsible for the overall design, development, verification, and release of diesel engines in future model year truck vehicles. The Diesel Product Engineer will manage all aspects of the application and utilize his/her experience in diesel engine technology, design, and development to ensure the seamless integration of engine and vehicle. Introduce vehicles with world class noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), drivability, performance and fuel economy characteristics on aggressive development timelines. The Diesel Product Engineer will manage warranty and act proactively and reactively to address quality matters.

Some functional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Independently make decisions and take appropriate next steps
  • Understand and use analytical tools in the design process
  • Good understanding of base diesel engine design and systems
  • Basic combustion principles
  • Basic emissions formation and after treatment technology
  • Key cooling system interface parameters
  • Key fuel system interface parameters
  • Key air management interface parameters
  • Key after treatment system principles
  • Understanding of engine control systems, electronic components and interaction

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 3 years project/engineering leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' engine application (preferably diesel) experience in any combination of engine, transmission, controls, vehicle adaptation or NVH design and/or development
  • Understanding and application of Quality Design Documents: Engine Functional Attributes Requirements Document, Engine/Vehicle Interface Requirements Documents, Systems DFMEA (Hardware, Software and Calibration) and Systems DVP&R (Hardware, Software and Calibration)
  • Professional verbal/written communication skills. Ability to present program updates, status reports, issue resolution plans and similar in higher level management meetings
  • MS Office Tools and capable of a broad scope of responsibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university
  • Automotive industry, global business and team leadership experience
  • Project leadership/management presentation skills
  • Independently lead engineers fostering team work and team accountability to deliver objectives. Able to effectively identify, document and track issues coordinating appropriate resources to resolution
  • Direct technical teams and activities necessary to launch diesel engines
  • Lead/mentor Diesel Product Engineers as needed
  • Good understanding of FCA vehicle functional objectives for diesel applications
  • Good understanding of FCA systems and processes
