The Development Lead (DL) Engineer will have the responsibility for leading the system integration of the Overhead Systems (OHS) and its components in conjunction with the interior trim organization. The Development Lead is the center of technical expertise within this organization to ensure design integrity for all vehicles prior to and thru the launch phase. The DL will own/maintain the global harmonization of all critical specifications included in our Design Practices (DP's) and work with OHS engineers to ensure design and milestone integrity on their individual programs. The selected candidate will maintain DVP&R and DFMEA's; approve all engineering source packages and develop standardization strategy for common componentry within OHS. The DL will be responsible for development of new innovative technology within OHS and will lead all benchmarking activities within OHS to make sure the marketspace is defined and understood in comparison with FCA products. The selected candidate will work closely with Purchasing Organization to develop viable suppliers (both current and new suppliers) for future programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited university (or equivalent)
  • 8 years of experience in automotive product design and development engineering
  • 5 years of experience in design and development of automotive Overhead Systems and its components
  • Familiar with PU and PP substrate manufacturing construction and SABIC deployment interactions
  • Familiar with Visor Assemblies, Visor Vanities and Center Support design and requirements
  • Experience with:
    • Plastic part design
    • Plastic injection molding
    • GDT
    • RSS Stack Studies
    • FEA Analysis
    • Metal stamping requirements
    • Electrical interfaces to wiring and components
    • FMVSS 201 / ECE R21 Head Impact Criteria (HIC)
    • OEM Vehicle assembly line requirements
    • FMVSS 226 SABIC Deployment
    • Vehicle Occupant Packaging (VOP)
  • Familiar with hard trim to substrate design set up requirements, attachment methods and best practices
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present ideas and concepts successfully to all levels of management
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering from ABET accredited university (or equivalent) or Business Administration
  • Expertise in CKM/beSTandard Database
  • 7FM DFMEA trained and proficient
  • NX-Basics - read models, cut section and make basic measurements
  • Catia V4/V5 and NX experience
