The Design Responsible -- Advanced Dynamic Performance Manager will supervise a team that is responsible for the advanced optimization of chassis performance via development of associated chassis system/component specifications and application of robust design/development processes. Primary deliverables are associated with advanced program activity from Concept Start through the architectural mule build phase and program transfer to production release team, including competitive and corporate vehicle ride/handling benchmark assessments; ride/handling and chassis system target development; formulation of chassis design specifications utilizing virtual tools; virtual/physical dynamic performance and target validation; mule vehicle specification and performance certification/confirmation; collaboration with global partners, powertrain, Chassis Dynamics, NVH, advance design (Concepts and Innovation) activities to optimize system performance; and development/execution of associated work plans and alignment with program timing. The Manager will maintain technology roadmaps for the associated methods development, foster the creation of high value "system oriented" projects that will improve overall process efficiency, support performance optimization, and mentor advanced development engineers. The design responsible will lead the development of virtual models of chassis architectures to optimize system performance, architecture impacts, and other system synergies with emphasis on cross-functional collaboration.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 10 years of automotive engineering experience with previous assignments in vehicle dynamics, virtual analysis, and chassis design/release
  • Supervisory and/or team leadership experience
  • Familiarity/experience with subjective ride/handling assessment and tuning methods; objective vehicle dynamics and chassis system test processes; theoretical vehicle dynamics and chassis design concepts; and alignment of test/simulation methods
  • Experience with simulation tools/processes: ADAMS, ADAMS/Car, Altair/Motionview, CARSIM, MB-SHARC, Nastran, and as well as NX/Teamcenter
  • Product development experience in chassis design/release, including familiarity with steering/suspension/brakes/wheels/tire system and component design/development/release processes and associated core document features/specifications
  • Demonstrated focus on system optimization and cross-functional collaboration
  • Trained in DVP&R and DFMEA creation and execution

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in automotive engineering in vehicle dynamics tuning and virtual analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, proven supervisory experience leading both engineers and suppliers on decoupled development programs
  • Good organizational skills, self-directed, ability to meet deadlines while adapting to changes, ability to multiplex several activities and programs
  • Detail oriented, team player, flexible, ability to prioritize
  • Proven ability to lead and resolve complex system issues
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and succinctly with executive management
  • Previous experience working with FCA colleagues in EMEA, LATAM, and APAC
