The Design Responsible -- Advanced - Interior & Plastics position leads the Advanced Interior Innovation organization. This individual acts as a technical expert contact for advanced decoupled innovation projects relating to interior design including materials, plastic and soft trim, injection molding and composite, interior cockpit, body exterior vision and exterior lighting, aesthetic surfaces and interior skin/foam/cockpit and decorative/hard trim. This role is focused on research and development type activities that bring value to Fiat Chrysler through cost, weight, investment reduction, and/or quality or timing efficiencies. This role also involves the execution of advanced decoupled projects with systems focus. The ideal candidate will have design and release responsibilities relating to interior development as well as an innovation and entrepreneurial mindset.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of total mechanical engineering experience, with a minimum 6 years applying expertise in interior design and development
  • Sustained level of achievement/performance with increasing levels of leadership and responsibility
  • Demonstrated potential to teach, lead, inspire and mentor others
  • Adept at communicating technical issues -- both verbally and written
  • Effective experienced based or analytical problem solving ability
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts successfully to all levels of management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent
  • Prior direct supervisory responsibilities
  • DFSS Green Belt certification
  • In-plant and/or program/vehicle launch experience
  • Thorough understanding of Federal Regulations, 3rd party metrics, interior performance metrics and package tradeoffs
  • Strong understanding of CAE, impact, durability and NVH analysis
  • Familiarity with many materials and processes including: composites, plastics, injection molding
