The Concepts & Innovation - Human Machine Interface (HMI) Engineer is accountable for the development of HMI logic with focus on human factors, ergonomics, design, controls and feature logic for electronic and mechanical systems. The HMI Engineer will develop and manage feature development and ensure specification and Product Design alignment with vehicle integration functional objectives, specifications and graphics. This individual will also research industry and non-industry developments and lead strategic HMI creation.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Ergonomics, Human Factors, Design, Physiology, Biomechanics, Human Kinetics, Psychology, Cognitive Systems, or related field
  • Five years of relevant experience
  • Experience in setting and assessing customer requirements by internal analysis /external benchmarking
  • Good organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines amongst changing vehicle designs
  • Detail oriented, team player, flexible, self-starter, customer focused, creates solutions, quick learner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering, Ergonomics, Human Factors, Design, Physiology, Biomechanics, Human Kinetics, Psychology, Design, Cognitive systems or related field
  • Three years cross functional development between vehicle engineering / product design / related functional teams
  • HMI logic and flow development experience
  • Experience with HMI target setting requirements and vehicle application
  • Knowledge of anthropometry and its application in a vehicle environment
  • Manufacturing and quality experience in vehicle product area
  • Ability to reach consensus on complicated cross functional issues
  • Ability to resolve conflicting requirements across multiple organizations
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer software skills
  • Demonstrated use of DFFS tools and methodology
  • Passion for vehicles and specialized knowledge of HMI and functional design
  • Ability to construct work plans to resolve issues
  • Ability to lead large teams, determine gaps to targets and develop solutions
  • Ability to lead a functional team within a matrix organization (SIRs are dotted line)
