Chief Engineer - Legacy and Purchased HD Automatic Transmissions Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The Chief Engineer -- Legacy and Purchased HD Automatic Transmissions will be responsible for delivering World-Class Automatic Transmissions including legacy 4/5/6 speed transmissions in addition to purchased heavy duty RWD automatics. The Chief Engineer will be the technical interface to Vehicle Integration, Advance Manufacturing, Purchasing, EE Core, Controls, Calibration and EE Systems. They will be responsible to meet (and/or exceed) program deliverables for FE, cost, mass and quality metrics. She/he will represent Transmission Engineering in high level meetings including Director and VP updates. The Chief Engineer will coordinate with Vehicle and Powertrain Engineering to establish initial program requirements including performance and packaging or be responsible to delegate/manage these exercises through to the Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE). The Chief Engineer will incorporate vehicle and program requirements into Engineering Design and Development plans. She/he will Interface with vehicle teams on acceptable engineering milestone dates in the program timing chart (hardware build dates, quantities and usages, calibration needs). The selected candidate will support Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Source Package planning and will be the owner of "Improvement List" to address JD Power, CTQ and 3MIS issues. The Chief Engineer will work with ACE to implement technical improvements and will work with Suppliers to plan on hardware updates and timing within the platform.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 10 years of experience designing, developing, calibrating or validating powertrain systems or components
  • 8 years of experience directly related to automatic transmission
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and strong independent leadership skills and excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from accredited university
  • DFSS Green Belt
  • Shainin Green Belt
  • 15 years of automatic transmission designing, developing, calibrating or validating experience
  • Program management experience related to cost, timing, risk and product selections
