Chief Engineer - Automatic Transmissions Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The Chief Engineering Team will deliver a world-class FWD purchased transmission product to vehicle/program requirements on time with excellence. The Chief Engineer will be the technical interface to Vehicle Integration, AME, Purchasing, EE Core, Controls, Calibration and EE Systems and meet (and/or exceed) program deliverables for FE, cost, mass and quality metrics (CTQ, 3MIS, JD Power). He/she will represent Transmission Engineering in high level meetings (for Director and VP updates) and will need to coordinate with Vehicle/Powertrain Team on initial packaging and incorporate vehicle/program requirements (per bulletin/PC) into ED&D and development plans. The candidate must interface with vehicle teams on coordinating acceptable engineering milestone dates in the program timing chart (hardware build dates, quantities and usages, calibration needs). He /She will support Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Source Package planning and will be the Owner of "Improvement List" to address JD Power, CTQ and 3MIS issues. The Engineer will work with transmission suppliers to coordinate hardware updates, new software requirement and calibration improvements and coordinate timing with platform resources (FTE, target application, etc.). The Chief Engineer will coordinate meetings between AME, Manufacturing and ATX Engineering on upcoming changes, projects and programs and sign off on "Validation Completion Document" at the appropriate gate and work on special projects as needed. The Chief Engineer will also need to interface with EMEA, LATAM, and APAC to provide transmission recommendations and technical guidance for programs lead by those regions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university
  • 10 years of automotive experience designing, developing, calibrating or validating Powertrain systems or components
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and strong independent leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from accredited university
  • DFSS Green Belt
  • Shainin Green Belt
