The HV Battery Hardware and Software Manager will be responsible for the design and development of Battery Management System (BMS) Hardware and Software for xEV projects. This position will require skillful leadership in development of battery management system HW/SW for new production programs. This includes new products developed using internal BMS hardware and software expertise as well as overseeing the application software feature development and functional safety aspects of supplier deliverables.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Management and execution of BMS development projects and new product development in BMS area
  • Creation of BMS hardware and software design specifications and product software for in-house BMS projects
  • Management of internal and external resources for BMS Application SW and Base SW development, integration and validation of Interface and perform design review with Tier 1 ECU supplier for BMS hardware development, including DFMEA, WCA, FTA, FMEDA
  • Lead the management of BMS and PPU electronic controls functional safety for production programs
  • Lead implementation of FCA functional safety process with Tier 1 battery pack suppliers for both system level and hardware/software level design review for safety critical functions related with BMS and PPU
  • Oversee the Battery State Estimation (SOX - SOC, SOP, SOH) function and the production battery pack development programs with Tier 1 battery pack suppliers and of SOX function development and MIL/HIL/Pack/Vehicle level validation
  • Creation and management of battery characterization and parameterization method and process, battery SOX function development, algorithm development and software validation
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the engineers responsible for; identifying and tracking the specific assignments, deliverables, and provide an assessment on the progress and outcome of the work
  • Lead employee training and development
  • Internal Program Reporting to management; prepare the results and provide feedback
  • Responsible as the global center of competency for BMS software and will work with FCA team members in other regions to define BMS requirements and assist in the component sourcing process
  • Prepare presentation materials as required for quarterly innovation project review as well as other BMS or battery algorithm related Innovation projects with external institutes and universities 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Systems, or Computer Engineering or related engineering field (Chemistry degree with relevant engineering experience considered)
  • 8 years in Product engineering design and development
  • 4 years of experience developing automotive based ECU software and/or hardware
  • 2 years of experience leading engineering teams
  • Strong technical management skills to lead a team for both advanced development programs and production programs in the BMS area
  • Strong knowledge of ISO26262 Functional Safety practice and process
  • Proficient with Model based software development process and layered software architecture
  • Proficient with ECU hardware and software development methodology, process, and tool chain
  • Strong technical project management skills and support management level presentations and project overviews
  • Strong technical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter who can lead a diverse workforce both onshore and offshore

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent; other graduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
  • Green Belt DFSS certified
  • Thorough knowledge of electrification technology functionality and features on the system level
  • High Voltage training and advance battery design/development experience is desirable
  • Battery cell electrochemistry understanding and knowledge of battery state estimation algorithms
