The Application Architect/Enterprise Systems Architect provides both strategic and tactical technical leadership for FCA's NAFTA Sales and Marketing IT development teams. Applications may include both package and custom applications. The Application Architect defines how the applications interact with each other, with databases, servers, and external systems to provide the complete functional solution to business requirements. This role also defines the technology stack, development standards, and APIs. The Application Architect is part of the Plan Strategic Services group and works with technical staff, development management, business stakeholders, IT operations, and vendors. This role develops and communicates the detailed application architecture, solution designs, and implementation strategy to the development team, and provides practical plans to implement architectural changes. The Application Architect is expected to assess business needs, acquire product and business process knowledge, and use the information to influence key technical decisions to deliver the best solution. Lead design of multiple simultaneous projects, develop and maintain core architectural constructs, provide architectural leadership to development teams, and serve as an application architect resource for the department. Participate in translating business requirements into implementation design, requiring a keen interest in understanding our business drivers, goals, constraints and pain points in order to design effective solutions. Communicate critical technical choices, specify requirements and constraints for design and implementation, and provide input for scoping the level of effort for development projects. Analyze application design and performance metrics and propose improvements and redesigns. Provide a long-term vision for the department platforms taking into account changes in technology within the context of current implementations and our global roadmap. Advise on deployment strategies for new features and components, asserting if rollout plans are safe, progressive, and reversible. Perform design reviews to ensure quality products and adherence to IT standards. Review Critical Applications and recommend application upgrades as necessary in coordination with the operations team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 5 years enterprise-level programming experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as an Application Architect/Enterprise Systems Architect
  • A minimum of 1 years multiple programming languages: XML and Java

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or related degree
  • MS in Computer Science
  • Expert at Object Oriented Analysis and Design, workflow, transaction lifecycles, component models, and software design patterns
  • Experience with XML, XML Schema, web services, REST, and SOA
  • Experience in Database architecture
  • Experience in Enterprise Integration methodologies: EAI, SOA, ESB, and ETL
  • Experience in application architecture and infrastructure landscapes in large enterprise deployments
  • Multi environment, multi region solutions
  • High availability and Disaster Recovery design incorporating clustering and load balancing OS platforms (UNIX, Windows), hardware, network, database, security and storage technologies
  • Capacity planning and scalability
  • Enterprise level data security and encryption
  • Exposure to architecture/design of Federated Single Sign On
  • Exposure to architectural components: TCP/IP Networking, HTTP, SMTP, Firewalls and Proxies
  • Able to quickly come up to speed on a large and complex platform and be able to grow rapidly into the consultative expert for a global team
  • A consultative team player that can assess conflicting view points and opinions but has an ability to rationally assess alternatives and clearly articulate recommendations to management
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills with an ability to interact with all levels of the organization in a professional, diplomatic and tactful manner
  • Always seeking to learn new technologies and techniques that could be beneficial to FCA solutions, but wise enough to evaluate the risks of new technology adoption vs. platform stability - Experience with multiple programming languages, Java, .NET, C, C++ and COBOL preferred
  • Experience in architecture planning and development for automotive/service and parts organizations
  • Experience in Content Management systems
  • Understanding of TOGAF ADM methodology and Zach Mann framework
