Advanced Design & Development Engineer - Interior & Electrical Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The Advanced Design & Development Engineer - Interior & Electrical is responsible for designing and developing new innovative interior and electrical systems that will meet future vehicle regulatory requirements, improve vehicle efficiency, and achieve customer functional objectives. The architectural product/system responsibility will include routing and location of electrical wiring harnesses and related modules, I.P. beam structure, seat structure, and front and rear HVAC systems. Additional responsibilities include benchmarking competitive vehicles, implementing FCA best practices, leading cross functional engineering meetings to develop new concepts, and writing work orders to initiate geometry creation with internal NX designers. The engineer will assist in translating strategic program targets into technical solutions and creating and analyzing alternate design concepts to meet functional objectives for new vehicle architectures.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience
  • CAD systems knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Experience in interior systems, electrical systems, engine systems, and powertrain adaptations
  • NX experience with ability to position and manipulate models, cut sections, dimension, & conceptualize designs
  • VPM or Teamcenter knowledge
  • Broad vehicle knowledge
  • Ability to integrate functional requirements into final vehicle design
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Ability to productively manage change
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts successfully to all levels of management
  • Excellent MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
