Active Damping Controls Engineer Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the successful vehicle-specific application of semi-active damping control systems. The tasks include, but are not limited to:

    • Development of state-of-the-art prototype and production controls solutions for electromechanical suspension components
    • Contribute to semi-active damping strategy/algorithm functional development
    • Work closely with chassis controls team members to develop seamless integration with other active chassis controls components and systems
    • Vehicle level calibration of semi-active damping controls algorithm
    • Development and execution of vehicle performance DVP&R
    • Support core software team with execution of functional and failsafe DVP&R with vehicle level tests
    • Execute software change requests
    • Perform software quality audits

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Materials /Chemical/ Civil/ Aerospace/Computer) from an ABET accredited university
  • A minimum 8 years related engineering experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of automotive testing and validation experience
  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle dynamics
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of vehicle systems
  • Experience with requirements management and software version management tools
  • Effective project management, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Data logging and analysis using tools (Vector CANalyzer, CANape, etc.)
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and capable of working with multiple groups
  • Must be capable of driving vehicles at, or above the limit of handling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum of 5 years calibration of embedded chassis controls system experience
  • Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) simulation experience 
  • Mechatronics based skills/experience/education 
  • Self-starter with strong communication skills
  • CAN networking experience
  • Microsoft Office tools
  • DFSS Green Belt certification
