As a result of FCA's focus to bring high quality products with an exceptional user experience to its customers, it is expanding its Advanced Development Engineering organization in the area responsible for the developing the Automated Driving /Driver Assistance Systems (DAS) of the future. Selected candidates will be immersed in a hands-on role, working with state of the art technologies, in a field exhibiting rapid year over year growth. As part of this team, candidates will work side by side with specialists and subject matter experts creating an environment fostering continued skill set growth knowledge share. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) team is currently seeking individuals to fill the role of a Virtual Validation (HIL) and Simulation Engineer. In this position, the Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing validation and reliability plans in a virtual or semi-virtual environment (HIL, SIL, MIL etc.) necessary to successfully launch ADAS features to production. These systems may include improvements and modifications to existing features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitor. The position will also be responsible for developing and executing plans for completely new driving features, including autonomous driving controls.

The position will include (but not limited to) the following responsibilities:

    • Design, implement, verify and maintain test scripts on dSPACE HIL equipment
    • Execute tests on dSPACE HIL equipment
    • Analyze data and test results, apply statistical models and validation methods and report findings and results to the cross-functional team and senior management
    • Review and help develop test procedures for various ADAS and Automated Driving features and applications
    • Troubleshoot issues and assist other verification engineers during the use of this equipment up to and including re-simulation of in vehicle logged data
    • Effectively communicate with cross-functional development engineers
    • Interface various vehicle control modules to the current dSPACE simulation equipment
    • Support development of the HIL plant models as it pertains to the dSPACE I/O layer
    • Analyze, identify and implement system upgrades and improvements as they become necessary for validation and reliability activities
    • Lead and participate in collaborate discussions with global HIL/SIL organizations to ensure standardization of tools, methodologies, models and test scripts

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Materials /Chemical/ Civil/ Aerospace/Computer/Computer Science/Physics)
  • Previous experience in HIL/SIL/MIL/dSPACE/RPC development
  • Minimum of 5 years related engineering experience
  • Knowledge of component and system validation in a virtual environment
  • Basic understanding of Vehicle Robotics/DAS system deployment/Automated Driving/Active Safety/System level validation
  • Proficient with Matlab/Simulink/Visual Basic/Python/LabVIEW as well as Microsoft Office applications (MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to author engineering level requirements, test and validation plans, execute validation tests in a virtual environment, analyze data and test results and create reliability reports
  • Experience utilizing general engineering tools FMEA, DVP&R, Lessons Learned
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Self-driven and highly motivated team player 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field from an ABET accredited university
  • Working knowledge of ground truth reference level sensors, camera systems, dGPS, visualization tools
  • Experience with Vector CAN tools/gateways (CANape, CANalyzer, or CANoe) for data collection, analysis, and vehicle diagnostics
  • Experience with various vehicle networking including CAN, CANFD, and Automotive Ethernet
  • Experience with creation of in vehicle gateways for VIL testing such as fault injection
  • Experience with vehicle dynamics, environmental and ADAS system simulation modeling within tools such as ASM, CarSim and CarMaker
  • Demonstrated ability to validate system/feature function and testing metrics to ensure end design meets functional intent
  • Experience in system design and setup for HIL systems for vehicle dynamics systems
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and modeling to validate vehicle safety systems
  • Proficient in vehicle functional safety standards ISO 26262
