As a result of FCA's focus to bring high quality products with an exceptional user experience to its customers, it is expanding its Advanced Development Engineering organization in the area responsible for the developing the Automated Driving /Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) of the future. Selected candidates will be immersed in a hands-on role, working with state of the art technologies, in a field exhibiting rapid year over year growth. As part of this team, candidates will work side by side with specialists and subject matter experts creating an environment fostering continued skill set growth knowledge share.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team is currently seeking individuals to fill the role of a Reliability Engineer. Reliability demonstration programs examine the propensity for malfunction among and amidst the interacting systems of a vehicle. The pass criteria include the accumulation of time and distance travelled without the presence of failure to statistical reliability and confidence requirements. To achieve the pass criteria a system and its interactions must possess and exhibit the appropriate reliability, meaning their ability to operate with sufficiently low failure rate that is the consequence of the design and construction of the constituents of the systems and of the constituents that participate in the interactions between systems. The Reliability Engineer will examine the constituents of the ADAS and Automated Driving systems and the interactions between those systems and the other systems of the vehicle to determine functional reliability and probability of functional failure and the sensitivity of that probability to design and configuration variables with the objective of assisting in the composition of a system design that can successfully achieve the ultimate reliability goals. These systems may include improvements and modifications to existing features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Monitor. The Engineer will also be responsible for reliability calculations of completely new driving features, including autonomous driving capabilities.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Calculation of reliability and probability of functional failure for ADAS and Automated Driving systems of components and interactions between vehicle systems
  • Work with suppliers to lead and assist in their examination and determination of component reliabilities (hardware and software and the interactions between hardware and software)
  • Analyze data and results, apply statistical models and validation methods and report findings and results to the cross-functional team and senior management
  • Review and help develop ADAS and Automated Driving system design characteristics with a focus on maximizing functional reliability
  • Review and help develop test procedures for various ADAS and Automated Driving features and applications
  • Effectively communicate with cross-functional development engineers
  • Lead and participate in collaborative discussions with global organizations to ensure standardization of tools, methodologies, and resources 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 6 years related engineering experience
  • Experience in reliability and failure probability calculation from system constituents and interactions
  • Knowledge of component and system validation
  • Basic understanding of Vehicle Robotics/DAS system deployment/Automated Driving/Active Safety/System level validation
  • Proficient with MATLAB/Simulink/Visual Basic as well as Microsoft Office applications (MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and statistical software such as Minitab
  • Demonstrated ability to author engineering level requirements, analyze data and test results, and create reliability reports
  • Experience utilizing general engineering tools FMEA, DVP&R, Lessons Learned
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Self-driven and highly motivated team player

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Reliability
  • Experience leading cross-functional reliability examination and determination projects
  • Experience with various vehicle networking including CAN, CANFD, and Automotive Ethernet
  • Experience with conversion of reliability determination results into design recommendations and validation tests
  • Experience with vehicle dynamics, environmental and ADAS system operation simulation modeling for reliability determination
  • Demonstrated ability to validate system/feature function and testing metrics to ensure end design meets functional intent
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and modeling
  • Proficient in vehicle functional safety standards ISO 26262
