3D Airflow Combustion Engineering - Group Lead Job, Auburn Hills, MI

The Group Lead (GL) of Engine Combustion System Development in Powertrain Virtual Analysis (PTV) is the leader in managing a group of engineers in supporting part design engine combustion system, engine combustion system optimization and advanced combustion concept evaluation/development through utilizing 3D CFD analysis tools. The Group Lead will work very closely with Program Lead (PL) and is responsible for project management including assignment, standard process follow-up as defined by 3D CFD capability catalogue, and high quality results delivery on time.

Other core responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise the execution of standard process in production development
  • Improve communication and operational efficiency
  • Manage and plan innovation projects 
  • Provide strategic planning of resources and the group development
  • Work with Technical Lead (TL) to improve 3D CFD capability and extend its applications into new areas

The candidate should have a strong background in engine combustion, system simulation and optimization. The candidate will also have strong ability in leading the direction of future engine product development and research at FCA.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience with powertrain IC engine combustion simulation and optimization using 1D/3D CFD analysis tool
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in management including project/program management
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge in data analysis, experimental tests, engine combustion systems and optimization, and engine airflow areas including manifold, intake/exhaust ports, exhaust system and tailpipe emission development
  • The ability to adapt quickly in response to variable operational situations
  • Proactive and able to follow up on open items with all levels of management
  • Excellent skills in presentation, communication, problem solving, prioritization and project management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics or chemistry from an ABET accredited university
  • Documented history of advancing the state of the art in the area of modeling, simulation, optimization of IC engine performance
